Sue at the slopes

If you ever delighted in skiing a powder tree run with Sue, or hiked our high alpine gardens with her in summer, you will recall the ease with which she danced in such a challenging environment, no matter the elements; the simple pleasures she found in nature, her ability to express her experiences so vividly, so compassionately, so convincingly. She took you by the hand and guided you into her world. Her skis caressed the downy snow, her eyes studied each blueprint of nature, her accounts etched in vibrant writings to those who knew her so well. Sue C Johnson, was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on July 1st 1956 to the proud parents of Ted and Vivienne Johnson. As the youngest sibling to David and Ted Junior, Sue was thrusted into an active family environment that wasted no time introducing her to the mountains. She strapped on her first pair of skis at the age of 3, rapidly mastered the technique and grew to cherish her new sport. After graduating from Colorado College in 1978 with a degree in environmental economics, Sue promptly moved to the mountains of Colorado to further her love of the high alpine outdoors. Becoming an alpine ski instructor, Sue taught skiing to countless families ... and most of her friends. She excelled at her ability to teach by example, reaching a level most experienced skiers only dream about. Not to let the commercial side of skiing dominate her experiences, Sue spent a considerable amount of time in the back country; XC skiing and telemarking the powdery glades in winter, hiking and losing herself to the colorful wonders of nature's gardens in summer.
